🎸 BASS GUITAR - Shibuya Moonrise

Spicy Major Chords (ii V I IV)

In today's post, you'll learn how to comp in two positions for each Stage over an "IV V I IV" development in Bb.

If you don't like the "music gergo" of intervals, flats, sharps and all that, you can still follow just by checking the tablature in the examples below and trust your ear. I am sure you will notice a difference in the way the same four chords are played across the fretboard.

Because Jazz standards feature common chord groups in their Progressions, for example, "ii V I, ii V I VI," and now's progression "ii V I IV," the perfect way to learn and practice Jazz chords are using those groupings. By doing so, as compared to studying chord shapes on their own, you will be able to swiftly comp through any Jazz standard together with confidence, as you have practiced putting chords together on your research.
Last, and most importantly, don't forget to experiment using different rhythms when working on those chords.

Please note how the Cm7 chord, iim7, begins with the root note on the low E string, with each of the following chords being as close as possible to the starting chord from there.

Now, we can start to explore various chord colors over the ii V I IV changes in Bb, make the chords "spicer".
